Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex last week with a sex worker. 12 hours before sex I shaved my penis area with a razor, and there were cuts in four to five places. Moreover, I licked her vagina without any protection. Can these two activities lead to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and STIs (sexually transmitted infections)? My anxiety level has increased very much. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Unprotected vaginal sexual contact carries a risk of transmission of HIV and other STIs. Please get tested for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and other STIs (sexually transmitted infections). The first test could be taken at four to six weeks of exposure and if the result is negative, a repeat confirmatory test is required at three months of the last exposure. You can get tested by HIV rapid antibody test.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had protected sex, but cuts were present around the shaft. And oral sex was unprotected. Is there anything that can be done right now? And what are the chances of me getting AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If it was protected sex and the condom had been used consistently and correctly, the risk of the acquisition of HIV is non-existent. If those were fresh cuts with oozing in the area of contact with vaginal secretions, that could be a possibility of acquisition of HIV, if your partner had HIV. Also, unprotected oral sex carries a negligible to low risk of exposure. Post-exposure prophylaxis is recommended within 72 hours of exposure. Also, not all exposure to HIV person will lead to infection. Please get tested for HIV and other STIs as per the testing recommendations mentioned above

Thank you.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

The cuts were 15 hours old with no active blood flow.
